The Professional Masters of Education (Primary) is a full-time, two-year course designed to equip student teachers with the range of knowledge and skills related to the profession of primary school teaching and its curriculum. The course structure enables student teachers to make real connections between the theory and practice of education. This is achieved through the blend of methodology and foundation discipline courses on offer.

Careers after your Masters

The Professional Masters of Education (Primary) is designed to prepare students to be primary school teachers.

Entry Requirements

Applications are invited from holders of an Honours Bachelor Degree (180 credits) for admission to this full-time two-year course which will commence in September 2026.

IMPORTANT

Candidates wishing to apply for the Professional Masters of Education (Primary Teaching) MUST take an accepted TEG exam. Please consult the Entry Criteria document for the accepted exams and the required result. You will be required to submit evidence of your TEG result with your application and before the application deadline.

Persons who successfully complete this programme are eligible to be registered by the Teaching Council under Route 1: Primary and will thereby be eligible for appointment in primary schools.

All Applicants must apply through the MU Apply.

Please be aware that as part of the application process, you will need to submit all required documents. Applicants should not begin the application before reading the Guidance Notes for this programme. All documents and advice relating to applying to this programme can be found here.

Application Closing Date: Monday 8th June. All documentation, including evidence of your TEG exam result, must be submitted by the deadline (with the exception of final year transcripts - see note below).

Late applications will not be accepted.

Note on Final Year Transcripts - Applicants who have not yet completed their Undergraduate Degree, have until the 10th of July 2026 to submit their final transcripts and / or official TEG certificate.
