MH101 - Media, Film & Cultural Studies

Go to Course - Bachelor Of Arts

Overview

Media, film and cultural studies in MH101 offers a solid foundation for creative industry careers. You’ll enjoy critical analysis and gain knowledge of the media and cultural industries’ key practices and processes.

What you’ll learn

You’ll explore the critical dimensions of media, film and culture and how they impact our world.

You’ll get hands on too, learning practical and project-based skills in modules like Live Radio and Digital Content Creation.

Looking for more extensive skills in digital and audio-visual practice? You might also consider the BA Media Studies (MH109).

How media shapes our experience

You’ll explore the ways that ‘new’ media (think social media, AI, and digital platforms) and more traditional ‘old’ media (like film, television, print and radio) actively shape our lived experience.

You’ll also research and analyse media genres, like:

  • advertising
  • documentary
  • media audiences and users
  • media technologies
  • video streaming platforms like TikTok

All of this will help you understand how media shapes the way we live. It will also teach you how to engage thoughtfully, and critically, with a world that is increasingly shaped by media.
