When you study music technology at Maynooth University, you’ll develop both your creative and technical abilities.
You’ll also have a unique and flexible opportunity to explore other subjects too. Under MH101 you can study music technology alongside music, computer science and a host of other subjects.

Practice and theory
You’ll also enjoy being fully immersed in the practice and theory of music technology.
You’ll gain hands-on experience of the core practical skills while learning all about the essential concepts.
Follow your interests
In your final year, you’ll have more opportunities to specialise in the areas that interest you most, including a project on topics like:
- sound engineering (recording, mixing)
- composition
- software development
- instrument development
Subject Structure
First year
- 15 credits of Music Technology
- Choose 2 or 3 other subjects, which may include Critical Skills, from the available groups (maximum 1 subject per group)
Second year and Final year
- Music Technology and 1 of your other first year subjects as part of a Double Major degree or as a Minor
- Optional 10 credit Elective in second year
- Optional Erasmus/Study Abroad after second year

Entry requirements
Leaving Certificate applicants
Required minimum 2H5 & 4O6/H7, Irish, English & third language. Recommended minimum 03/H7 Leaving Certificate Mathematics if choosing Music Technology.
