Statistics deals with the collection, analysis and interpretation of data.
A degree in statistics gives you the tools to tackle some of the biggest challenges humans face today, from climate change to treating cancer, and even managing traffic.

A flexible degree
Statistics as a Double Major subject can be combined with most other subjects in the Bachelor of Arts degree (MH101). This flexibility lets you explore society through those subjects while gaining the statistical tools needed to interpret their data.

Subject Structure
First year
- In year 1 of the BA Double Major programme, Statistics is taken with two or three other subjects. One of these subjects must be Mathematical Studies or Mathematics (Pure)
Second year
- Statistics is taken with one of your first year subjects. This subject can be, but does not have to be, Mathematical Studies or Mathematics (Pure)
- Optional 10 credit Elective in second year
- Erasmus/study Abroad option after second year
Final year
- Statistics can be taken as a Double Major or as a Minor subject. The second subject can be, but does not have to be, Mathematical Studies or Mathematics (Pure)

Entry requirements
Leaving Certificate applicants are required to present (as a minimum): 2H5 & 4O6/H7 and O6/H7 in Irish, English, 3rd language. O3/H7 Mathematics recommended to study Statistics.
Postgraduate
Postgraduate study is also available and our academic staff have a diverse range of research interests in areas including algebra, analysis, data analysis, dynamics, geometry, number theory, statistical modelling and topology.

Graduates of a degree in Statistics are highly data literate and because of this are very much sought-after by employers.
