In first year, you’ll find studying computer science alongside other arts (MH101) subjects particularly beneficial.
This subject combination gives you a broader perspective and more options for your academic direction after first year.
Depending on which pathway you’ll follow, you can study advanced topics like:

You can also choose to move into a specialised degree after first year.
Lectures and lab work
Based in the Eolas Building, our state-of-the-art information and communication technology hub, all our courses include a mix of lectures and lab work.
Your practical work will take place in our excellent laboratories, complete with high-spec equipment and facilities.

Subject Structure
First year
- Take either 15 credits or 30 credits of Computer Science
- Choose 2 or 3 other subjects, which may include Critical Skills, from the available groups (maximum 1 subject per group)
Second year and Final year
- Computer Science
- Continue with 1 of your other 1st year subjects
Or
- Transfer option into new specialised degree MH604 BSc Computer Science, having taken either 30 credits of Computer Science plus 15 credits of Mathematical Studies or 15 credits of Computer Science plus an additional 7.5 credits including the module CS192 in the second semester of first year (22.5 credits in total) plus the 15 credits of Mathematics.
Or
- Transfer option into MH402 BSc Quantitative Finance if you complete first year MH101, achieving an average of at least 60% in each of the following subjects: 15 credit Economics/Finance subject, 15 credit Mathematical Studies subject and 15 credit Computer Science subject and pass your other subject.
MH101:
- Optional 10 credit Elective in second year
- Optional Erasmus/Study Abroad after second year

Entry requirements
Leaving Certificate applicants are required to present (as a minimum): 2H5 & 4O6/H7 and O6/H7 in Irish, English, 3rd language. O3/H7 Mathematics recommended.
